Four seconds of Jensen Huang's kitchen keynote
NVIDIA named DKAI Lab among the COVID-19 researchers using its hardware, and put the lab on screen in the GTC 2020 keynote.
On 14 May 2020 Jensen Huang gave the GTC keynote from his kitchen. Two months into the pandemic, there was no hall to give it in. About five and a half minutes in, he turned to the people using NVIDIA hardware against COVID-19, and the screen filled with a grid of them, captioned COVID-19 RESEARCHERS. Tarry Singh is in that grid, in a black dk shirt, in front of the bookshelf he had been teaching from all spring.
NVIDIA had asked for the footage. The clip the lab sent is twenty-two seconds long, shot at home on 23 April 2020, carrying a lower third for curae.ai, care powered by AI. It is published here in full, because it is ours. The keynote is not: it is linked, and it opens at the moment the grid appears.
What sat behind the appearance was the work. Through 2020 the lab was running deep learning against medical imaging and clinical text, the thread that runs from the skin lesion classifiers taught in Berlin and Barcelona in 2018 through the telepathology meeting at Aurich to the question answering over intensive care records presented as TREQS that June. Several papers came out of that year.
The recognition is worth stating plainly, because it is the kind that cannot be bought. NVIDIA picked the researchers in that montage. A lab of a dozen people in Assen appeared in it alongside institutions many times its size.
