Two DataHack Summit talks and the AI Playbook workshop
Analytics Vidhya brought deepkapha.ai to Bengaluru for DataHack Summit 2019: two talks from the conference stage on 13 November, then a full day of leadership work on 16 November.

Analytics Vidhya ran DataHack Summit 2019 in Bengaluru from 13 to 16 November, under the line "Unleashing the era of super AI". American Express was gold sponsor, Intel Software and Ericsson silver, AWS the hack day sponsor. Tarry Singh spoke on the 13th. The auditorium was full to the back rows.
The talk moved from argument to evidence. First the case for borderless AI: the arms race between states, the surveillance problem, and the reasons AI is not a Manhattan Project. Then two clinical stories. deepkapha.ai had worked with the healthcare division of GOPA on breast cancer detection for women in Afghanistan, where pathologists are few and diagnosis comes late. A four month pilot produced a working prototype at roughly 82 percent accuracy on a very small dataset, and by November the figure stood at 98.5 percent. The second story was diabetic retinopathy in China, where a grading system was built on 70,000 fundus photographs classified against the British diabetes screening standard.
Jie Mei took the same podium with "Evolution of Deep Learning: A Biological Perspective", setting network design against what neuroscience knows about real brains. One slide put human and machine side by side, row by row.
Three days later the work moved to a function room at the Royal Orchid: round tables, laptops, a projector on a trestle. The Leadership Workshop: AI Playbook ran the day. Participants scored their own organisations across nine dimensions, from culture and leadership through governance and controls, structure and location, people and skills, information, applications and technology, processes, infrastructure, and sourcing and suppliers. They worked through five ways an AI organisation can be arranged, decentral to super central, and a six layer view of the target operating model. Then they wrote candidate initiatives on sticky notes and placed them on a wall canvas, effort up the side and value of opportunity along the bottom, quick wins in one circle and big bets for business in the other.
Certificates went out at a quarter to six. Each one named the holder, the workshop and the date: 16 November 2019, at DataHack Summit 2019. The last frame of the day has the room standing together behind the projector table.
